I am posting this message to get the attention of all webmasters

of paid to read programs...

Please be aware that:Share Ad Space sends out infected pop-ups

along with their advertisements. The name of the virus is:

No/Close

Even if you scan the pop-ups for possible viruses, they seem to

nevertheless insert something in them from their own website

or so I have been told by a webmaster I work for.

Please be careful and boycott whatever comes from their website

until they desinfect all outgoing adverts of theirs.

Whoever told you that story needs to check out their info a little better, or perhaps you should before passing things on.

First and foremost, it's NOT a virus! It's a browser hijacker and spyware. And although these pop-ups have been found in a lot of SAS ads, they have also been found in many other places as well.

I've encountered two different kinds lately - one is called AdWebBiz and the other, more prevalent one, is called passthison. These things are just out there in cyberspace waiting for us and "boycotting" the ads of one program isn't going to protect you (I got it once in an ad that had been placed by a 70+ y/o grandma - not an SAS ad at all - and this one had a porn hijacker!)

Instead of spreading false info and alarming people, do these things: run a good spyware program and get rid of ALL the nasties that are lurking within your computer (Spybot-Search&Destroy is awesome because it will not only get rid of what is already there, it will also "immunize" your computer against all known spyware programs-right now there are 85 of them!). Also, keep your cookies cleaned up -- always watch for ones for "passthison" "findthewebsiteyouneed" and "adwebbiz".

Finally check out the threads on GPF about this as they contain URLs you should enter into your popup blocker as well as your "restricted site" list if you use IE (sorry, I've got to get to work and don't have time to type them all out here).

These are the kinds of things that will protect your computer and they're a lot more productive than advocating a boycott of any program that is an innocent victim.
