View Full Version : Frame breakers

OK, I would appreciate if someone would help me understand this, while we're on this topic. I had a member who regularly would go through my PTCs, paid emails and tell me "This one is breaking frames, this one is breaking frames"....and I never understood what that was. I just knew it was bad, and I would pull those ads.
What is breaking frames, and how do I know if an ad I put up is doing that?
TIA

@CupidCash... this was slightly off topic but here is your answer: a frame breaker is a site that has code in it to "break out" of the frame that PTC uses. So say for example you were clicking ads on a PTC site and you clicked an ad for XYZ, when that site loads it executes a script to make it jump out of the PTC frame, which is meant to stop a user from getting credit for viewing that ad. Sites like Linkbee use it, and I know there are scripts out there that can make a site a frame breaker.

@ Cupid... also, your site should have some sort of way to check the sites before you approve them to see if they're frame breakers or not. I don't know much at all about your type of script but maybe? LOL

But how do I know that this is what is happening?
If I click on an adlink and the window opens and the timer starts to count down and the PTC site frame disappears but the advertiser site remains is that what iframe breaking is?

That is EXACTLY what "frame breakers" do. They "jump" out of the ptc frame, or amke the ptc bar disappear. Now, don't get "iframe" and "frame" confused. An iframe is pretty much a website inside a frame on another website. For example, I have an iframe that opens up another web page to a URL shortening service I offer for my members.
From what I understand with the research I did today, iframes can also be used to hide these frames, I can't explain in too much detail because it would probably confuse anyone who reads it, but yeah, don't confuse the two. Then you'll end up thinking every ptc is a cheater or something hahah!

with iframes, you have to set the height and width of the iframe for the viewers to see it. The "hidden" iframes that people talk about that cheat are typicall either "width=0 height=0", in other words, invisible to the naked eye.
OR...to try and circumvent some of those 0-frame detectors out there, they'll make the height and width equal to 1. 1 pixel high, 1 pixel wide (just a dot on your screen). In other words, regardless of how much content you have on that iframe page, it still only shows up as a dot on your screen, hence...technically invisible to the naked eye ;)
Now, before everyone runs off on a crusade to scour site's code for these 0 or 1 pixel sized frames, there are still more of these small framed windows that are used for LEGITIMATE reasons, not cheating purposes, such as tracking leads, sales, etc.
I have been working on this extensively in my real life job for the past 9 months so have learned quite a bit about why and where they are used.

Those were the words I couldn't think of... they were all there just couldn't figure out what order to put them in to make the most sense LOL!

UGH *headache*
unfortunately, Jerry, there is no way to check an ad before I put it up to see if it credits. It will in admin, but may not when someone on the site clicks it.
I will go through my site today, and click on all the PTC ads to make sure they are crediting, but with some 80 others that are paid on my site, I have to rely on my members. I will say this, though....that if MW or ANY member on my site finds an ad that they are NOT credited for, just email or let me know, and I will give you double what it was supposed to be.
I wish there was a way to know beforehand :(
Thanks for all the help

Wow! and to be honest, with your script, you'd think they'd have that option available to you. Maybe email them and ask them if they could look into adding it as an included feature?

Are you saying the script you use doesn't have a framebreaker check during the insertion step?
For example, when someone adds a site to a typical Traffic Exchange, they will see their page in a small window with a 10 to 20 second countdown timer. Once that timer has elapsed, it will then have a button that says "proceed" (or something similar).
That window and timer serves several purposes:
1. make sure you typed in the right URL so your page loads
2. you can see first hand if your page has multiple pops, possible download prompts, virus alerts, etc.
3. if this page breaks out of the frame, you won't be able to complete this countdown step and thus, your page never gets inserted into rotation.
Does your script have this step during page insertion?

LOL, first I just have to laugh at Jenteel, rofl.
Now, no I have no clue what you guys are even talking about. Here is an actual screenshot from where I put PTC ads, for example:
http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd326/cupidcash/ptc-1.jpg
You probably can't see it well, but I just enter the links, the timer settings, whether or not there is a turing number, and the payout. It stops me nowhere and asks me for no further information.
I would ask cash crusader, but they never got back to me on a "High priority" email regarding activity requirements.
We may have a better cheat checker, but I think that's about it, lol.

Here you go, I just whipped up a simple checker to see if a page breaks frames:
http://shareadspace.com/framechecker.php
Just enter in the complete URL of the page you wish to check (complete with http://) and wait however many seconds your sites timer lasts.
Hope it helps.
