View Full Version : Might want to keep an eye on Sebux

Yesterday I was going through some links of sites that I signed up for months ago, so I have taken it upon myself to check them all out now with who.is and other means. I saw that I was a memeber of Sebux and signed in. I noticed that they had a shoutbox and I looked at it just briefly to see if there was any site updates or anything since I hadn't been there for a long time. Unfortunately you have to scroll down to read it from the bottom up to make the most sense but there is some interesting wordage right there at the top. I also apologize that it is all mixed together, but I didnt want to be accused of changing anything. This is a copy and paste of the shoutbox conversation, which I found VERY interesting:

So reading this, I sent an email to them, here is a copy and paste of:

I just read on the shoutbox that the site will be closing very soon and I would like to have my acct and all of my information deleted from your site and database. Please advise when it has been completed. Thank you

So this morning I go to my mail and there is an email returned and here is the copy and paste of that:

So I logged into the site to see if my acct had been cancelled or not and it hasn't been, and the shoutbox has been removed.

Just thought that I would pass this along since I found it a little disturbing. Be sure you check out the sites forum, which you will see that there are WAY too many people complaining about no admin support, no payment, no offers crediting, no ads.... etc... so I would say BEWARE!

Wow Bren that is something. So if it was not them saying it as the admin then who was it? I am sure the mods will want to edit some of that but I understand you not wanting to change anything yourself. That is absolutely horrible talk to be coming from any admin in my opinion. :p

No Fraud = Happy Owners as well :) I was a little skeptical it would actually be from staff that wrote in the shout box. Who would be dumb enough knowing it would destroy their site. Besides signing up as admin, people can hack into stuff all the time. I lack that talent but alot of people know how to hack into things. To me it sounded like a couple kids being dumb ;)

That is totally up to the site owners on if they want to cancel accts or not very true. But if you offer the option to cancel the agreement because you no longer agree to the TOS (if it were changed somehow) then it should also be offered to be cancelled if you no longer agree to the current TOS that you were in agreement with. And also if you have an option in your FAQ section that states (which is copied and pasted from their actual website this is the link http://www.sebux.com/help/index.php?qid=1
then you should by all means cancel the acct if you are contacted with a request to cancel an acct and removed info from their database, instead of avoiding the request and replying with something that does not address that issue. I agree that this email addressed the subject of their shoutbox as well but they left it at that. Just my opinion of course. I think that you may be correct in your assumptions that it is kids or someone who hacked into the shoutbox, however no one knows for sure. I actually was trying to get the point across with the link to the sites forum. That just backs up a lot of different people's feelings about the site. I do not have a problem with site owners wanting to keep fraud free (since that is the whole problem with the industy today not just members but also owner) but there should be a way to cancel an acct so they are not considered a member anymore, but still have a way to check for duplicate accts. I know that there are ways the check IP addresses. Sometimes I feel as if a site owner that I have talked to is correct in her assumption that the owners don't want to delete accts because it makes their stat's look good to new prospective members (ie: site members: 2000 looks better than 50 active members) which in my opinion is totally a misrepresentation from the get go. If it looks like there is a lot of members, then people will think that it is a great site to join. And in actuality, it may be a scam/fraud site. Of course there are other reasons as well. I don't know....I have just heard from too many people that is the attutude of some owners.

I know, I have wanted to cancel my acct for quite sometime now to no avail. Not everyone wants to delete their acct to sign up again to defraud someone. They might be like me. Sometimes, we find out certain things about the site that we don't like, or an owner that we don't agree with or payment problems or the offers don't credit or whatever the case may be. There are many possibilities. Just my opinion

I don't understand why they would have a problem cancelling your account? If you want to cancel obviously you wouldnt be working the site any more. If it was issue of showing a false member count, all they would need to do is keep the member count off the page so noone had any idea how many members there were. In my case I kept the member count off of the site because I didnt want people to feel there were too many members and they wouldnt have a chance at winning a contest. I never had a problem with anyone cancelling either, it was their choice.

This comment was referring to MTCM actually. Maybe Falloutboy could answer why they don't delete accts.... I have no idea. But there are also 2 others which I have requested to have acct closed because of various reasons. So I just stay off of the site and maybe one day they will get the hint that I don't want my acct any longer and delete me because of inactivity.

In some cases I do think that they want the member numbers up there so people think that they are a "hot" site and that it must be a great site because there are so many people who are memebers, only to be disappointed once they join. Then when they want to cancel their acct because they find out that it isn't all that it is cracked up to be, they can't. I have no idea because everyone has their own reason why they do what they do. Just my opinion.

Because of our awesome contests ;), we've had a few members that would get caught frauding and then ask for their account to be cancelled...so that they can sign up again under the radar with a different IP...this isnt always the case...but to prevent our site from going under we take extra measures...If you continue doing offers on a site...that shows you agree with the TOS...thats what the terms are on most GPT sites...my advice would be if you dont like the site anymore...just dont go to it...lol...I never saw the point in cancelling my account at a site, if they did something dumb, I would just be like "forget this" and not go back, lol.

May I ask if anything has been done yet about kevinsgirl, since she is a known frauder? I see she was winning some of your contests there. :)

rachelclark91

I'm sure if they found her frauding they would give her the boot as it would bring their site down. A leopard can definately change their spots, so I suppose it looks like she's playing by the rules. Either way mtcm's management has nothing to do with sebux. ;)

Seraph,

If you have such a problem with Benny and his sites that you barge into threads, go off topic and try to insinuate or bash Benny, why not start a thread just about him and his sites?

Secondly, and this is just a general question...but what the heck is up with thanking your buddies all the time no matter what they say? I can understand if something is posted that is useful, you agree with or just plain funny...but when you thank someone for going off topic and then whine in other threads about others going off topic...seems kinda silly....Okay back to the topic at hand....that being Sebux...did anyone find out anymore about them?

I just was pointing out something flawed in his post. It'll never be answered, though. :) She makes him too much money.

As for constantly thanking buddies...what are you talking about? I thank people when I truly think they deserve it.

Apologies, ma'am.

As for Sebux, my opinion is that it also may possibly be a miscreant. If anyone remembers, there was an email supposedly sent out by EcashOffers that was full of vulgarities and such. It turned out to have been sent by another GPT owner who was rather peeved at the success of ECO. Maybe this is a similar situation?

Anyway,

I checked Kevingirl's account and she has not had any reversals...nor have we received dup. or false info in the offers owned by us...on our site, nothing is being frauded by her.

*Your* contest?....Interesting. And yes, I was emailed a screenshot of it. :) Do I need to post that? <rolls eyes> Yes, yes, I felt the need to totally lie about something so trivial. /sarcasm All I've ever suggested would be that you compare offer lists with other owners. That's how they caught her last time. She's very good at not getting reversals....she was taught by a GPT owner on how to avoid those. Long story there that would be best for PMs.

Anyways, I was discussing the Sebux thing with someone, and I have a small question. Was the shoutbox just a normal shoutbox (my initial guess) or was it one of the YIM/AIM ones?

rachelclark91

If it was a YIM/AIM one it would have to be the owner or someone who has access to there YIM/AIM.. But it seems they had normal shoutbox heres a cached version I had to edit out the things said i the shoutbox, pretty discusting really.

I'd say it was someone fooling around, although I understand your concern Bren.

Okay, then yeah a normal shoutbox would be VERY easy to pull a stunt like that. You can just nickname yourself "admin". Now if it was YIM/AIM, there's a lot of ways you can get into the owner's account info....I mean...look at the issue with Sarah Palin's email account. There's a million and one ways to phish info, as long as you find out a few websites they're a member of.

No argument there Rachel. I never did like those shoutboxes. Would seem the owners would prefer the members putting their energy more on doing the offers and bringing in the revenues for the site than in pointless chatter in shoutboxes. Just my opinion on shoutboxes anyways. :p

That is so true Seraph and scary too. I had someone hack into one of my internet accts and when I went to work for the company they got caught. It stopped too. The idiots in my case were stupid enough to go into a chat room that my boss was monitoring during a time when I was at work for the very company that the acct was with sitting right across from my boss. The ip was traced and they were busted cold. Turned out to be some teenage kids but their parents and the entire family living in that home lost their internet privledges with that company and had to pay some restitution to some of the families. Was not a pretty site when the parents found out. I got an apology from the parents even tho I had never met the family. It was a random thing. They had no reason to go into my acct or anyone elses and yes there were other accts they got into once they learned how. Nice that the kids are taught how to use the internet as it can be very educational as well as fun. I just wish there was a little more taught to them on the consequences of their actions if they try to hack into someone elses info. That is a serious offense. My opinion. :p

rachelclark91

I see what ya mean Mouse but unlike a forum its hard to moderate a chatbox. Especially since

1. You don't have to sign up to the shoutbox
2. You don't even have to be a member of the site to write in one.
3. The owners wouldn't even have anything to go off such as IP etc to ban a person.

Heres the Cached link:

You are right about the crude remarks on that shoutbox Rachel. There is no reason for any member to be subjected to having to look at the likes of that garbage on any site. Just goes to prove my point. Shoutboxes are pointless. Besides forums are just as instant as far as communication goes. Look at how fast people respond on this one. My opinion. :p

Actually Rachel you can track ips on a shoutbox, but thats about it as far as moderation and such. My friend who has a band has one on his site and has access to everyones IP....I dont think they are pointless however rachel is right, leaves it open to people acting the fool

Five minutes is pretty instant. But they have to realize that if they have a shoutbox and it is not limited to only being accessed by the members and anyone can enter a message then they are leaving themselves open to that kind of garbage. Not a good idea in any case unless it can be somehow controlled by the admin. Besides isn't communication between members the whole point of having a site forum? Again making the shoutbox pretty pointless in my opinion. :p

Well....to each his own, I'm not going to argue the validity of shoutboxs :) but there is big difference between 5 minutes and instant..I like them, but I understand why some wouldnt :)

Seraph, You are correct in your assumption. It was a general shoutbox. Soory it took so long to get back to you.

The shout box was what caught my attention. The real info, factA and opinions can be found in the forum. I have already posted the link previously, but just in case it was missed due to the length of the post and the SB discussion here it is again
