Has anyone out there got any suggestions to get rid of all the
junk mail I receive at my hotmail account
I have set the filter on high and numerous times have
unsubscribed to heaps of emails (not replying by email though).
Some sites do not have an unsubscribed section
others do but when you press the link the page cannot be found :(
Any suggestions?
Thanks:)

Regarding junk mail, I remember reading an opinion on dooyoo regarding unsubscribing.
The author said that if you hit 'unsubscribe', all it does it tell the junk mail sender that you exist and they'll send you more...
However I still hit unsubscribe wherever possible and have noticed improvements :)
There should be some sort of law against unsolicited mail without a working unsubscribe option.
I wonder if anyone else has any thoughts on this?

Thanks for your reply Rob:)
I have noticed an improvement too but they still keep on coming:mad:
Never reply to an email to unsubscribe either as thats another way. It just tells them that email address does exist
"There should be some sort of law against unsolicited mail without a working unsubscribe option."
I agree with your above comment
:)
Must be someone we can contact over these:mad:

I don't even know what's there, but I've heard excellent things about this website.
It's down at the time of writing...

micama... after 3 hotmail accounts I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. I too received tons of junk mail in hotmail, but the last account I got I saw someplace in the signup form to check or uncheck... it was something like making your presence known on the web or something, can't remember exactly. It's automatically checked. When I re-signed I unchecked it and didn't check any of the subscriptions. I've had the account for several months now and NEVER get junk mail.
Try going to Options and choosing Member Directory. Make sure the box is not checked. That might help some. Also in Options look in Free Newletters and make sure none of those are checked. Do that in MSN Featured Offers too.
Let me know if it helps.

I'm pretty sure there is some law against unsolicited emails.

I believe Heartless has a point. When registering with Hotmail, make sure that you don't sign up for any extra things. I have 3 Hotmail accounts .... one gets a fair bit of junk (the first one I signed up) ... the other two are clean as a whistle.
Same goes for Yahoo .... watch when you sign up with them and don't offer your account to any advertising.

Also checked MSN featured offers and all are unchecked as well:\

I checked the spamcop site out and it is mainly to buy things to stop spam.
I checked my hotmail account and came across this
Unsubscribe Information
This email was sent to the owner of the following Account/Username: ryuser
To "opt out" from future mailings of this type, visit This Page
Or call the 800 number below. Please allow 5-10 business days for database request.
Ok you press the This Page and then you get an error message:!:
They also is no phone number to ring:(
I get several of these daily so who the hell is ryuser and why do I get them?
Makes me so mad:( :( :(

BUT....the bad thing is, in order to unsubscribe you must OPEN the email. My problem is, I get several I just really don't want to open if you know what I mean. So I just keep deleting and getting frustrated because they won't just go away! Some of it is just plain disgusting, and that's just the subject line!:\

I know which ones you mean Kirpie:\
Hit the block this sender button and block it.
If it is one from one of these obscure sites like @dixx.com or something like that click the 2nd option to block all email with that address:)
I find this helpful sometimes:)
Good Luck

I seem to be getting more and more junk mail again:\
How come I cannot block @hotmail.com?
Most of the rubbish I notice comes from these sites and most my friends can email me elsewhere so I would love to be able to block this one.
Anyone with any suggestions?
Thanks :D

Don't bother unsubscribing to junk mail emails as it does not work :(
You just get more :(

Hotmail has filters you can apply to your hotmail account. Just copy and paste the gross titles you get..(porn, morgage stuff) and then click deliver into trash. Make sure you enable them on the bottom though. It has elliminated most of the same titles that keep coming back but with different email address.
Check it out. It's just in Options.....

My hotmail account was finally getting cleared of all the rubbish as I kept on blocking the sender :)
However I have reached my max of 250 and have had to start deleting some :(
Any way of getting around this?
By the way my filter is set on high and my junk mail filter is set to not deliver any messages to me , so I never have to worry about that one.
Any suggestions re 250 limit would be appreciated :)
Thanks
Marina
I use hotmail to e-mail you micama... are you sure you wanna do that, lol!

Don't worry Rob :)
No mail goes to my junk mail box at all as they are only the ones that come with 5 thousand headers.
The email addressed to me personally are always sent to my inbox :)
Anyway Rob I have you on my safe list :)

i don't use hotmail at all anymore due to the 100's of junk mails i was recieving every few days! grrrrrrr..
a few months back they added a little section to your Personal Profile to allowed mass emails to be sent to members without notifying us of the change! go to Options, then Personal Profile and make sure all the boxes about "sharing" are unchecked. almost everyone i talked to had these boxes checked and didn't even realize they were there!
hotmail has many times added hidden "features" that enabled spam to get through. can we put them on the boycott list??? hehehe

A Few Tips Not For Blocking Spam But Avoiding It
In The First Place, Lol Maybe Too Late For Some
Of You..... But It Might Just Help Others.
Be cautious when replying with 'remove' in the subject header
or clicking on 'Unsubscribe.' Many companies like when you do
this because now they know that you at least read their email,
which is a lot more than most people do. Once they know this,
instead of removing you they are likely to send you more email.
Do not check " I am interested in receiving email on special
offers " when registering for a site. Many companies consider
this your permission for them to send you spam. Not only will
the company send you email, they will likely rent or sell your
name to other companies so the other companies can spam you
directly.
Keep your name and email address off of member directories.
Some companies sell or give away email addresses.
Most companies have policies and terms that prohibit use of
their information for spamming, but this doesn't seem to stop
some spammers.
Many companies use programs commonly known as "bots" to harvest
your email from the web. To reduce the chances of harvesting,
you: Should not provide your email in a click-to-email link
(HREF MAILTO) if you publish web pages.
Consider disguising your address when posting to newsgroups,
usenet groups, and chat rooms or when registering for web sites.
Consider signing up for a free online e-mail account to use when
posting to newsgroups, usenet groups, and chat rooms or when
registering for web sites. This way all the unwanted junk mail will
be sent to your alternative mailbox instead of your working one

I quit using most web-based email sites. Most spammers use these sites because they know the sites themselves do little if anything against spammers. Even more annoying is the worthless legal jargon in the email that really is worthless
Anything that you do not opt-in to or do not know the sender iss sending SPAM/UCE.
Anyone that you do not know has no business sending you email asking for your business. Most claim it is just plain business marketing, but business marketing does not send you email from an address like fjha4@yahoo.com and includes no postal contact information)
And as far as 3rd party opt-ins. This has got to stop. There is too much "abuse" in this department.
